V&A WATERFRONT ADDS WARM GETAWAY OFFERINGS TO BEAT WINTER BLUES

The V&A Waterfront has added a number of leisure and retail options to its existing offering this winter, providing an entertaining daytrip destination for the whole family during the school holidays.

One of the highlights this month has been the opening of a number of new retail tenants, adding an exciting range of international brands to the existing V&A Waterfront retail mix.

“We are excited to welcome the new brands such as Hello Kitty and Jelly Planet, among others, to the V&A Waterfront fold,” says Leigh Thomas, Retail Leasing Manager at the V&A Waterfront. “These brands add great dimension to our existing offerings aimed at a younger market, and have already proved to be a welcome addition to the mix,” she says.

This winter visitors are able to experience the best of what the V&A Waterfront has to offer at significantly reduced prices. “Our annual winter sale is well underway, with a large number of participating retailers offering exciting brands and products at very favourable prices,” says Annemie Liebenberg, tourism, customer services and communications manager at the V&A Waterfront.

“Couple your winter retail therapy session with a discounted dining experience at any of the participating top-rated restaurants offering a number of half price options, breakfast specials, free extras and more. Add that to the half-price movies at Nu Metro on Wednesdays and Ster-Kinekor on Tuesdays, and you will have plenty of heart-warming reason to return the next day,” Liebenberg says.

The V&A Waterfront now also offers a choice of wine tours focusing on typical South African wine and fare, visiting landmark estates such as Kanonkop and Middelvlei, and the popular Van Rhyn’s Brandy distillery in Stellenbosch. Information on these tours is obtainable from the wine desk at the centrally located information centre.

As part of its winter offering, the V&A Waterfront also launched a Get away with the V&A competition, offering the winner a trip for two and a luxurious four-night stay at the five-star Royal Livingstone hotel in Zambia. The total value of the overall prize amounts to R100 000, which includes his & hers tote bags, his & hers jewellery from Kamaldien Jewellers, a Fuji FinePix Z700 camera from Digital Eye, and a R3 000.00 gift voucher each from Cape Union Mart and Poetry.

Visitors to the V&A Waterfront are encouraged to participate in the competition by collecting a competition entry in the form of a passport. “Every time you visit the V&A Waterfront, you can collect a passport stamp,” Liebenberg explains. “Once you have collected four stamps you can drop your completed entry in the Get Away with the V&A entry box.”

Ten finalists will be drawn and treated to an overnight stay at the Queen Victoria hotel at the V&A Waterfront, during which the final winner will be announced.

In an effort to enhance the get away ambience at the V&A Waterfront, a number of photo booths have been installed throughout the Victoria Wharf shopping centre for the duration of the winter. “Capture your get away experience at the V&A Waterfront by having your picture taken with family or friends against some exciting backdrops. Then visit the V&A Waterfront website to download your photo free of charge,” Liebenberg explains.

The Get Away with the V&A competition launches on 5 July 2011, and closes at 21h00 on 31 August 2011. Please visit winter.waterfront.co.za for further details on the V&A Waterfront winter offerings and the Get Away with the V&A competition.
